TEHRAN -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said here on Wednesday that Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyeh devoted his life to the liberation of Lebanon and expressed his condolences to the martyr’s family and all the Lebanese people.
The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has inflicted heavy losses on Israel since 1982, especially during the war in the summer of 2006.In a message to Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed outrage at the Israeli act of terrorism which targeted a young Lebanese fighter who stood up to the Zionist aggression against his homeland for his entire life.
The Supreme Leader said that the martyrdom of the faithful and devoted fighter is a great blessing and the Lebanese people will be proud of such a great man, who devoted his life to the liberation of his country and people.
The Supreme Leader said that the Lebanese nation should celebrate the fact that Moughniyeh fulfilled his religious obligation to defend his homeland and its dignity.
Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his condolences to Moughniyeh’s bereaved wife, children, father, and the rest of his family and friends.
The death of a freedom fighter is difficult for his wife, children, parents, and friends, but the life and death of such a man can also inspire nations, and he can become an example for the young generation to follow, the Supreme Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the criminal and bloodthirsty Zionists should be aware that the sacred blood of martyrs like Moughniyeh will promote the culture of resistance and martyrdom.
Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Thursday expressed condolences to Hezbollah Secretary General Nasrallah, the other members of Hezbollah, and all the Lebanese people over the martyrdom of Moughniyeh.
In his message, Rafsanjani said that Moughniyeh’s assassination will surely boost the spirit of the Hezbollah forces and will be a dark mark on the record of the usurper Zionist regime, which claims to be fighting against terrorism.
Moughniyeh was martyred late on Tuesday in a car bombing in the Syrian capital Damascus.
